Now Available at Still Waters Therapy
We are excited to offer EMDR therapy at Still Waters Therapy! In March 2026, we both completed a comprehensive five-day EMDR training through EMDR Consulting and are currently incorporating EMDR into our work with clients while completing our required consultation hours.
EMDR can be a powerful approach for helping individuals process distressing or traumatic experiences, reduce the emotional impact of difficult memories, and develop healthier ways of responding to the present.

What is EMDR?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a therapy approach that can help you work through experiences that may still be affecting you today. Sometimes, things that happened in the past, whether they were big, traumatic events or experiences that may have seemed small at the time, can continue to influence the way we feel, think, and respond in the present. You may even find yourself thinking, “I know I’m a worthwhile person, so why do I still feel like I’m not good enough?”
That’s where EMDR can help. EMDR helps you process and make sense of difficult experiences so they no longer have the same emotional hold on you. The goal isn’t to erase memories or pretend that something didn’t happen. Instead, EMDR helps your brain process those experiences in a healthier way so that you can look back on them without feeling overwhelmed by the same emotions, thoughts, or physical sensations.
How Does EMDR Work?
One of the things that makes EMDR different from traditional talk therapy is the use of bilateral stimulation, which can include guided eye movements. This process is thought to be similar to what happens naturally during REM (rapid eye movement) sleep, when our brains are processing and organizing information.
During an EMDR session, we alternate between brief periods of processing and sets of eye movements or other forms of bilateral stimulation. You don’t have to tell every detail of your experience, and you remain in control throughout the process.
